Meet the Safety Central team

Charlotte Wright   Safety Centre Lead

I took over as Safety Central manager in September 2024 after working in the Fire Service for 5 years. I love working here because I can combine all the knowledge I have gained whilst in the Service with my experience of being a teacher in a previous role. My aim is to improve what is already a great resource, to continue to offer an enjoyable and informative visit to people of all ages.

On a personal level, I am married with a daughter in primary school, so I am kept busy organising and being taxi driver for her various activities and busy social life! Having studied English at university, my love of reading and going to the theatre has continued. I also enjoy walks in the countryside or by the sea, visiting castles and museums, and meeting up with friends and family. I also volunteer with my local Santa sleigh so can be seen dressed as an elf throughout December.

Sam Underhill- Education Officer

I’ve dedicated a big part of my career to the world of education, wearing many hats as a teacher and curriculum developer. My journey has taken me from Preschool all the way to adult learning, helping me hone skills that truly enhance our immersive programmes and create the most engaging experiences for everyone who joins us.

I’m genuinely passionate about the Fire Service’s mission to create safer communities in Cheshire. With my background as a volunteer in the service, I am now thrilled to be part of the core team at Safety Central. Together, we educate individuals of all ages and backgrounds in pursuit of this important mission.

I absolutely love showcasing our Centre (especially the cool special effects!) and am really looking forward to welcoming you here, where we really do make Safety fun!

Clare Barlow – Education Officer

I began here at Safety Central in January, after working as a Primary School Teacher for over 22 years.

I have always been involved one way or the other with educating children and adults as it’s something I really enjoy.  Many years ago, I was involved in Living History events, and my initial degree in Environmental Science led me to become a Park Ranger in Warrington where I had fun guiding schools and community groups around the lovely parks.  I then became an Environmental Education Officer for Salford Council.

On a personal level, I live with my husband, teenage daughter and my little dog Jasper!  I enjoy going for long countryside walks with family and friends, and I have an interest in the environment and wildlife.  I also love nothing more than relaxing in the sunshine with a good book!

I have really enjoyed being a part of the Safety Central team and I am excited to continue welcoming all our lovely visitors with a smile!

Daniel Maude– Education Officer

I am thrilled to be part of the Safety Central team as your Education Officer. Alongside my role here, I volunteer my time within the service as a Cadet Instructor and as a member of a water rescue team, bringing extensive experience in fire and water safety, as well as youth leadership. Since September 2022, I have been dedicated to teaching essential safety skills and empowering our visitors at Safety Central.

My work spans fire safety education, water rescue techniques, and nurturing young leaders through our cadet programs. My aim is to make safety education accessible and engaging for all, ensuring that each visitor leaves with practical knowledge to enhance their daily safety. Join us at Safety Central for a unique learning experience that combines fun with critical life-saving skills.

Sean McCormick– Education Officer – Targeted Youth

I’ve worked in the fire service for over 18 years, starting out as an advocate before finding my place within the Targeted Youth Team, where I’ve spent the majority of my career. I’m passionate about supporting young people and helping them reach their potential, which is why I’m always proud to assist with our King’s Trust Programme when I get the call. Youth education is something I care deeply about, and I’m driven by the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of those I work with.

Trisha Healey– Education Officer – Targeted Youth

I am an Education Officer specifically working within the Targeted Youth area. I have worked with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service for over 13 years. During that time, I have supported a lot of young people that have been at risk of being expelled from education settings go on to make a positive contribution to society. I have also luckily been part of two successful trips to Nepal. As part of my role, I also a keen part in supporting colleagues with their mental wellbeing and am proud to say that I am a Mental Health Fist Aider.
